How often do I have to wear uniform?
You are required to wear uniform once a week.
2. How can NJROTC benefit students?
NJROTC provides endless benefits to include, leadership, management, discipline, responsibility, and confidence. The program also emphasizes self-discipline, helping students balance academics, extracurricular activities, and personal commitments. NJROTC also helps you with your Physical Fitness and aims to assist you with leading a healthier lifestyle, through training and exercise.
3. By enrolling into JROTC, do I have to join the military / am I being recruited into the military?
Cadets who enroll the class are NOT required to join or are being recruited.
4. Is there anything else I have to wear?
Yes. On Mondays you are required to wear the Academics Uniform, if you have NJROTC on that day. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, you must wear the Personal Inspection Uniform (PI) on the days you attend the class. Lastly, on Thursdays and Fridays, whenever you have the NJROTC class you are required to wear the Physical Training (PT) Uniform. Whenever you have the class.
5. What can cadets expect to learn in NJROTC?
Cadets who enroll in NJROTC can expect to learn various skills and knowledge that prepare them for leadership roles and responsible citizenship. Cadets explore leadership development, discipline and responsibility, civic awareness/engagement, scholarship opportunities, teamwork and collaboration, mentorship, and career exploration.
6. What good is NJROTC outside of school?
NJROTC equips cadets with a versatile set of skills and values that enhance your personal and professional life, making it a valuable experience beyond the classroom. NJROTC grants cadets with numerous ways to enhance their communication skills, problem solving skills, teamwork, and management skills.
7. Do I have to cut my hair?
Yes. You must meet the grooming standards outlined in the Navy regulations for proper uniform wear. This includes shaving for all males and hair off the collar and face for females. Proper uniform grooming is an integral component of presenting a sharp, professional appearance.
8. What academic credit do I get by enrolling into NJROTC?
Students who choose to enroll into NJROTC fulfill Physical Education, Performing Arts, and Science Credits.
9.Will I be able to do NJROTC if I’m on a sports team/ have a job/ etc.?
Yes. You can still do the NJROTC Program while being on a sports team, having a job, or other commitments. However, it'll require you to have good time management and prioritization. We do encourage you to be involved in other extracurricular activities!
10. Is the uniform hard to care for?
Not really. Just like any other suit of nice proper clothing, it requires regular dry cleaning and proper hanging and storage after wear. The uniform is issued to each cadet cleaned, and the cadet is responsible for its upkeep and cleanliness until it is returned at the end of the year.
11. Are there any Program fees?
Yes. There is a 60$ Program Fee, and purchasing this gives you access to your Physical Training Uniform, an 8x10 Photo, 2 Nametags for your Personal Inspection Uniform, and a Water bottle. It's 15$ to replace your nametags.
